New CD from Scott Martin

March 8, 2010 by adminhdr

Scott Martin’s new CD “Only Trust Your Heart” now has an official release date of March 29th.  The CD features Justo Almario as special guest.

About Scott Martin:

Scott Martin is exploding on the scene as a leader of his own band, The Latin Soul Band, after more than fourteen years of playing with the GRAMMY® Award Winning Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band. He was an influential part of the Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band and has recorded with Ray Charles, Billy Preston, Sam Moore and many other soul greats.

While Scott Martin was traveling the world, performing, recording, composing and arranging with Poncho Sanchez, the band received a GRAMMY® Award for Best Latin Jazz Performance and they were nominated numerous times. They also won 2 Billboard Music Awards, and embarked on countless World and Nationwide tours. Scott’s compositions have been featured on Poncho’s recordings, as well as on TV shows such as “Sex and the City”, “The Jimmy Kimmel Show”, “As The World Turns” and more.

The Scott Martin Latin Soul Band has performed at numerous venues and festivals all over in the last couple of years. They performed a tour of Japan, a tour of Canada, they played at the Hawaii International Jazz Festival, Mammoth Mountain Jazz Jubilee, Temecula International Jazz Festival, KSDS ‘Jazz Live’ from the  Seville Theatre, Brea Jazz Festival, Oxnard Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival, and many more concerts, events, and jazz clubs.

Scott Martin’s latest CD is called ‘Organic Voodoo Juice’. It is a powerful musical statement from Scott Martin and his Latin Soul collaborators, once again straddling the musical genres of Jazz, Latin and Soul. Scott Martin’s Band has captured some magical moments on this CD. Featuring the B3 organ sounds of Joe Bagg, this CD is reminiscent of the sounds of the classic organ groups of the 1960’s. This CD also features Ramon Banda, a great drummer well respected all over the world. Rene Camacho anchors the rhythm section on bass. The Martin Brother Horns add their horn expertise, and Rick White plays some great guitar as well as contributing some compositions and vocals.

Scott’s first release, “Café Cubano” on SCM Records is a collection of mostly original compositions penned by Scott Martin and/or his collaborator, guitarist Rick White. It’s an array of tunes with influences from Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria to Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters; which received radio airplay all over the US, Japan, and Europe.Poncho Sanchez performs on this CD as Scott Martin’s special guest. This CD is *Soulful Latin Jazz at it’s finest!

Scott Martin’s second CD is entitled “Menudo & Gritz”. It combines Scott’s long term tenure performing Latin Jazz, and his love and experience of playing soul and jazz, and mixes them into a soulful sonic stew that is extremely intoxicating. It also features three generations of Martin Family Horns!! Scott’s father – Dave ‘Big Daddy’ Martin, his two brothers – Stan and Andy Martin, and his son- Tyler ‘The Kid’ Martin all play. Latin Soul never sounded better!!

October 13, 2009 by adminhdr

This Weeks Featured Artist on HornDrivenRadio.com is Greg Adams. We are featuring nine songs covering Greg’s career. There are three songs from his time with “Tower of Power” “Cruise Control”, “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride”, and “Vuela Por Noche”. We also have three songs covering Greg’s solo carrer which are “Hidden Agenda”, “Felix The Cat”, and “’Sup With That”. And finally three songs from his newest project “East Bay Soul.” “iHope”, “Jump Shout, & Holler” and “Survival Of The Hippest”.

About Greg: “Greg Adams’ career has included success as an arranger, composer, conductor, and performer and earned him both Grammy and Emmy nominations and an International Broadcasting Award from The Hollywood Radio and Television Society. It has been a musical travelogue that has spanned nearly four decades, taking him on worldwide tours and contributing to some of the most important recordings in pop culture.”
“Legendary for the horn arrangements that created the signature sound and have made Tower of Power one of the most enduring musical entities today, Adams is a founding member of Tower of Power recording fourteen albums with the group on four major labels and millions in record sales. Greg has arranged for, performed and recorded with countless artists as diverse as his career, including The Eurythmics, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Lyle Lovett, Phish, Linda Ronstadt, Luther Vandross, Little Feat, Aaron Neville, Santana, Everclear, Quincy Jones, Huey Lewis and the News, Wilson Pickett, Heart, Josh Groban, Bonnie Raitt, Dionne Warwick, Madonna and The Rolling Stones.”
“His 1995 solo debut, Hidden Agenda, went all the way to #1 for five weeks at the top of the Smooth Jazz charts, fueled by Adams sublime muted trumpet and a smoldering remake of Sade’s “Smooth Operator.” The album received wide critical acclaim and established him as a major architect of the emerging “smooth jazz” sound. Greg took a break from his session schedule and released the much anticipated 2002 follow-up album, Midnight Morning, generating two top ten singles, “Roadhouse” and “Sup with That.” Adams’ third solo project FireFly, released in 2004, was among the top 100 honored at NAC radio in 2005. With his fourth solo disc, Cool To The Touch, Adams captures magic on nine original tracks and a classic remake in tribute to Sting’s smash hit “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You.”
“East Bay Soul” Greg’s newest project, ”will remind you of what you loved about music, creating an all new “Metro Jazz”, really a new approach of a melting pot of contemporary urban rhythm and a music combining all the sounds from the city. The ethnic sounds of the trials and tribulations, the hard fought, the victories, sweetness and sadness. It comes through in the music in all forms. It’s world, it’s metro, it’s edgy, it’s urban”.
