Featured Artist Greg Adams and Updated Playlist

October 13, 2009 by hdradmin

This Weeks Featured Artist on HornDrivenRadio.com is Greg Adams. We are featuring nine songs covering Greg’s career. There are three songs from his time with “Tower of Power” “Cruise Control”, “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride”, and “Vuela Por Noche”. We also have three songs covering Greg’s solo carrer which are “Hidden Agenda”, “Felix The Cat”, and “’Sup With That”. And finally three songs from his newest project “East Bay Soul.” “iHope”, “Jump Shout, & Holler” and “Survival Of The Hippest”.

About Greg: “Greg Adams’ career has included success as an arranger, composer, conductor, and performer and earned him both Grammy and Emmy nominations and an International Broadcasting Award from The Hollywood Radio and Television Society. It has been a musical travelogue that has spanned nearly four decades, taking him on worldwide tours and contributing to some of the most important recordings in pop culture.”
“Legendary for the horn arrangements that created the signature sound and have made Tower of Power one of the most enduring musical entities today, Adams is a founding member of Tower of Power recording fourteen albums with the group on four major labels and millions in record sales. Greg has arranged for, performed and recorded with countless artists as diverse as his career, including The Eurythmics, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Lyle Lovett, Phish, Linda Ronstadt, Luther Vandross, Little Feat, Aaron Neville, Santana, Everclear, Quincy Jones, Huey Lewis and the News, Wilson Pickett, Heart, Josh Groban, Bonnie Raitt, Dionne Warwick, Madonna and The Rolling Stones.”
“His 1995 solo debut, Hidden Agenda, went all the way to #1 for five weeks at the top of the Smooth Jazz charts, fueled by Adams sublime muted trumpet and a smoldering remake of Sade’s “Smooth Operator.” The album received wide critical acclaim and established him as a major architect of the emerging “smooth jazz” sound. Greg took a break from his session schedule and released the much anticipated 2002 follow-up album, Midnight Morning, generating two top ten singles, “Roadhouse” and “Sup with That.” Adams’ third solo project FireFly, released in 2004, was among the top 100 honored at NAC radio in 2005. With his fourth solo disc, Cool To The Touch, Adams captures magic on nine original tracks and a classic remake in tribute to Sting’s smash hit “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You.”
“East Bay Soul” Greg’s newest project, ”will remind you of what you loved about music, creating an all new “Metro Jazz”, really a new approach of a melting pot of contemporary urban rhythm and a music combining all the sounds from the city. The ethnic sounds of the trials and tribulations, the hard fought, the victories, sweetness and sadness. It comes through in the music in all forms. It’s world, it’s metro, it’s edgy, it’s urban”.

Bononia Sound Machine Featured Artist-New Playlist

October 6, 2009 by hdradmin

Our current featured artists is “Bononia Sound Machine”.  We currently have three songs in our rotation (see playlist below) from their CD “Stuffunk”.   See more about “Bononia Sound Machine” below:
Having undergone many stages of evolution, today’s BSM style and repertoire guarantee first-class entertainment for all audiences.

Bononia Sound Machine’s live performances include a variety of genres, from the classics of great soul singers like Otis Redding, James Brown, Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin, to the masterpieces of funk powerhouses like Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, and Average White Band, and ending with an energizing finale of the most popular disco hits.

All songs are selectively chosen and arranged into an extraordinary play list creating a sound very unique to BSM.

The year 2004 was a landmark year for Bononia Sound Machine, who won the national Heineken Summer Kings of Soul competition hosted by the Blue Inn Café and partook in the Pistoia International Blues Festival. In December of that same year, BSM recorded their first ever live record titled “Blue Inn Café Live”.

Over the years, BSM have performed live in front of thousands of people. In 2005 the band played an amazing concert in Piazza Maggiore, Bologna in front of 15,000 music lovers. The same year BSM flew to England for some gigs in Leeds and Harrogate.

In 2006, BSM expanded their repertoire and created the School of Soul, a unique live set dedicated to the birth and evolution of soul music. This special set offers a real treat for all lovers of the classic Stax and Motown hits of the 1960s to the most well-liked soul jams of today, and includes fun facts and stories about the original performers!

The year 2007 was another important landmark year for the band: In June BSM played during the world famous “Ducati World Week” and shared the stage with such artists as Patty Smith. A month later Bononia Sound Machine released its first studio recording session called Stuffunk which contains truly original songs written and performed by band. The official release of the new album was July 19 2007 and it was complimented by a special live performance at the 20th Anniversary of the International Porretta Soul Festival. Stuffunk is available on iTunes.

In 2009 BSM has played at 27th edition of Sudtirol Jazz Festival and at 179th edition of San Lazzaro Fair.

Bononia Sound Machine is working on a new cd called “Funky Dreams!!!” which will host some Tower of Power members: Jeff Talemier (guitar and producer), Greg Adams (trumpet and horn arrangements), David Garibaldi (drums), Rocco Prestia(bass), Stephen Kupka (baritone) and Mic Gillette (trumpet and trombone), just to name a few.

HornDrivenRadio.com is pleased to announce that we have three songs from the new Greg Adams offering “East Bay Soul” the self titled CD from this all-star band.  The three songs are as follows Jump,Shout and Holler, Always Take Two, and iHope.  More information on this release can be found below.

September 22, 2009 Ripa Records has just announced the release of  “East Bay Soul”, the debut album from trumpeter producer Greg Adams’ project “East Bay Soul”. Adams, founding member of Tower of Power and legendary arranger, his signature sound made the Tower of Power horn section a sought out entity all it’s own. Greg has made an urbane, soulful and lush recording that showcases his stylishly soulful arrangements. As a trumpet player, Adams lternates between a powerful open horn and sexy muted trumpet revealing the breadth and elegance he embodies.

The sound has it’s root’s in the uniquely soul based genre associated with the San Francisco East Bay Area. It is however, R&B for our time. Watch and hear this band and you will find yourself in ront of the stage, and people will be moving with the music. The timeless quality of the East Bay Soul sound knows no age limits.
Emmy and Grammy nominated Adams co wrote several songs with Nick Milo, his former band mate from Tower of Power and now Music Director for Joe Cocker. The opening track “Survival of the Hippest” unfolds with the epitome of cool, it’s horn laden track swells with complete commitment before Tom Bowes delivers a rap that is almost biographical as the title implies.
Balancing the sultry and robust, the hopeful and the absolute. East Bay Soul excels on the west coast straight ahead “Bop Drop” that literally drops into “Reading Lips” jazz infused R&B soul drenched vocals of love in bloom.
Lee Thornburg emerges with his interpretation on Howard Tate’s 1960’s chestnut, “Stop”, and Adams’ arrangement is just what the song needed to bring the “full funk” of the track to life.
Drawing on the inspirations of our times and awareness of new ideas, “iHope” asks the question of promise and possibilities, a message delivered with tremendous style by Darryl Walker. “Someone New” a stirring closing to the disc about emotional distances we must overcome to keep love alive and questions “Am I losing you?”
Adams trust and confidence in what he has designed, is what makes East Bay Soul so exciting. “It took this much time for me to get here and to finally make this kind of record. I always knew it would happen.
“East Bay Soul will remind you of what you loved about music, creating an all new “Metro Jazz”, really a new approach of a melting pot of contemporary urban rhythm and a music combining all the sounds from the city. The ethnic sounds of the trials and tribulations, the hard fought, the victories, sweetness and sadness. It comes through in the music in all forms. It’s world, it’s metro, it’s edgy, it’s urban.
It’s East Bay Soul. It’s Got Soul!”
